Meet the Artist
Hello! My name is Mo Johnson, and I am a 22-year-old traditional and digital illustrator from Rockford, Illinois, though currently living in and working out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I am currently in my senior year of college at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, and will be graduating in May 2027 with a BFA, having majored in Illustration. I have done small work for clients in the past, such as watercolor pet portraits and linoleum block-print posters to raise awareness for COVID masking; but I am also well-versed in digital art, pixel art, risograph printing, etching, and ink illustration. I worked at my college’s printmaking lab as a student monitor during the Spring 2025 semester, and have done volunteer work with the poetry bookstore/non-profit Woodland Pattern doing data entry for their storefront.
I have had a strong interest in science fiction and horror for many years now, which has only increased as I have grappled with disability, mental illness, and my own queer identity as I’ve grown older. I strive to explore human identity and the ways in which it can be impacted by circumstances both within and beyond our control, and how that relates to our own perception and relationships with ourselves as people. And if those ways happen to involve at times an intimate portrayal of bodies and their viscera, I find that to be only an intuitive development. We are, I believe, a melding of meat and mind, shaped and formed by how the world views us.
